WILDLIFE

WILDLIFE:

Pieced this in a day while in Maine this year.  Lap size (50" x 62") for a guy.  It will go to the auction that is held locally to benefit children within the community whose parents are trying but just do not have the finances to do dental or eyeglasses.

The blocks are all animals that are North American wildlife (deer, racoon, foxes, etc.), with camouflage sashing, denim posts, and a different camouflage border. The blocks were cut 8", the sashing was 2.5".

It has already been machine quilted by RLM and is waiting for me to put the binding on it.

Update: 10/13/2018 - the quilt has been bound and is ready to go to the community auction. The backing was a light weight denim and it is self bound.

Update: Dec. 2018 - the quilt was purchased by the auctioneer for $200. It was a good cause and I am glad that I could help in this small way.

LITTLE GEMS (a 2 block quilt to use up scraps)

Little Gems (a 2 block quilt to use up scraps) - This pattern is from the July/Aug 2014 "Love of Quilting" magazine.

I have been piecing half square triangles since January 2018 for this quilt.  I used up many small scraps, and said some not very nice things about the amount of triangles this quilt required and my loosing count of where I was in the amount. I should not complain, I was after a way to use scraps and the piecing is not hard.

So the quilt requires 2 blocks:

Once the blocks themselves were together, the top went together very easily.  I was able to sew the rows together while in Maine this year.

It still does not have a border, but I think the design is really nice. It is currently 72" x 80". I am planning on adding 2 thin black borders with a scrap border between them. It needs to be big enough for a generous queen size.

The directions called for white fabric instead of the black I used for the background, but I think the black makes the scraps really pop - I love the colors and how the top looks so far.

SNOWMAN 4 PATCH (quilt top)

Piano key border

NEW !!!!! SNOWMAN 4 PATCH quilt top! Fabric: quality cottons that include prints, and solids.

Size is 58" x 74".

The scraps are 4" blocks sewn into a block and alternated with the snowman fabric.

Can be quilted as is, or add a border to make it larger. It has a narrow snowman fabric border, and then a scrap "piano key" border, but another border might make it the right size for your needs.

Once quilted can be machine washed gentle. I am an expert seamstress - the piecing of this top is quality, and I use a scant over 1/4" seams. I made this top in 2000 because I just thought the snowman fabric was too cute and I wanted to make a fun Christmas quilt just to do it .

It has been stored hanging on a hanger in closet of kid/pet/smoke free home. I am downsizing and would like all the extra projects to find new homes for themselves to go to.

For sale on Etsy - see here: https://www.etsy.com/shop/IndianaQuilter40

4 PATCH & BUTTONS (quilt top)

Four Patch Quilts are so much fun to make.  The fabric can be all thought out and coordinated, or scraps with alternate blocks of a solid fabric.....there is no end to what creativity can do with this pattern.

4 PATCH & BUTTONS quilt top!

Fabric: quality cottons that include prints, and solids.

Size is 64" x 80". Can be quilted as is, or add a border(s) to make it larger. It has been stored hanging on a hanger in closet of kid/pet/smoke free home.

I am an expert seamstress - the piecing of this top is quality, and I use a scant over 1/4" seams. I made this top in 1996 because I just thought the blue and pink button fabric was too cute and I wanted to try making a simple 4 patch quilt.

Since this one, I have made several other 4 patch of quilts and find it a simple, fun, and quick quilt to make.

This top is for sale on Etsy: https://www.etsy.com/listing/626065285/4-patch-buttons-quilt-top?ref=shop_home_active_4&frs=1

FLAGS & TEDDY BEARS QUILT TOP

FLAGS & TEDDY BEARS quilt top!

Fabric: quality cottons that include prints, and solids.

Size is 108" x 80". Can be quilted as is, or add a border to make it larger.

I am an expert seamstress - the piecing of this top is quality, and I use a scant over 1/4" seams. I made this top because I just thought the patriotic teddy bear fabric was too cute and I wanted to try out an idea I had for a "flag" quilt.

I machine pieced it in 2000.

FARMALL QUILT (started life as a fabric panel)

The center of this lap quilt is a farm panel that I saw and just knew I had to make a quilt for my brother-in-law.  I brought it home and it sat for a couple years as I collected fabrics that would appeal to a Farmall collector.  Had to be careful not to get John Deere fabric (he would use words that cannot be posted here).

Pieced it in spring of 2018 by adding coordinating fabrics around the center panel in various widths - looks complicated, but is really easy to do.

Size: lap

My brother-in-law collects anything and everything Farmall. Maybe it comes from growing up on a dairy farm. Anyway, he turns 40+ next month and I made him this quilt with a farm and Farmall theme. It was actually fun. The brown border is a toile fabric that is Farmall tractors (who knew that toile came in that subject??) that I bought in Paducah while at the national quilt show. It is cotton fabric and poly batting. The back is red (like Farmall tractors)pieced with a fishing fabric I had (he likes to fish too) and the quilting thread is also red - sticking with the red theme. Machine quilted by RLM. Self bound (in other words the front is folded over on the front to make the binding).

HARVEST TIME TABLE RUNNER

NEW !!!!! HARVEST TIME table runner. I made this during 2016-17 just because I wanted to see how these fabrics looked together. Log cabin blocks. The fabrics in log cabin blocks include homespuns, batiks, and prints. The backing is a candy corn fabric. Lightly machine quilted. Binding is hand finished. Size is 16" x 48". Materials: Cotton fabric and batting. Machine wash gentle. Has a tag on back with title, dates of project, and my initials.

LOG CABIN QUILT TOP

LOG CABIN QUILT TOP. Fabric: quality cottons that include prints, solids, and batik. "Logs" are purple and green with light yellow centers. Size is 84" square, could be quilted as is, or a border added first. Pieced 2013-14 in Maine and Indiana. I made this top for my adult daughter who did not like it due to the color tones, so this one needed to go to a new home. Sold.

MINNIE MOUSE

Update in Oct. 2018: The quilt was finally machine quilted and self bound (a fabric folded over the front and stitched down).  The grand-daughter is very happy with the completed project and it went home that day and is currently on her bed.  It is not intended to be a keep sake, just a nice snuggle quilt to be used and enjoyed.  When she is bigger, we will make a quilt to keep and not use as hard.

May 18, 2018:

My 3 year old grand-daughter was all excited about the Minnie Mouse fabric we saw at a store while actually looking for some other fabric (I guess we are easily distracted). The main colors were bright pink and black. So I bought enough fabric for a jumper and a snuggle quilt. Once we got back, she helped me wash and dry the fabric. Her mom made the jumper, which excited the grand-daughter and she of course wanted to wear right now. The snuggle quilt took a little longer to get together. It is 64" x 70" and was machine quilted by RLM over the summer of 2018.

She was playing with her doll as I finished sewing her snuggle top together. We laid it out on the floor and looked at it. She laid her doll on it and started to wrap it up. So needless to say, we used the scraps to make her baby a quilt too. I simply cut strips 2" wide and sewed them directly down to pink fleece. The finished doll quilt is 24" x 29, very soft, and very washable.

PADUCAH, KY - APRIL 2018 (Part 2)

That time of the year is just past, and as always, it was a great show and there were lots of vendors. I always look forward to the quilt show in Paducah every year - winter is done, and it is time to be inspired to new projects. I felt like this year there were more vendors and fewer quilts, but maybe it was just how the show was set up or even my imagination. I really enjoyed the landscape and pictorial quilts at the show this year. So here are some photos of quilts from this year, there is no rhyme or reason, just simply quilts that caught my eye.

TIP: If you are planning on going to the show in Paducah and need a motel room you will want to make reservations several months in advance.  I have personally found that getting a room for one night gets harder every year as the motels/hotels/B&B's want to rent to people who are staying for the entire event.  I get my room in December and usually end up in Metropolis, IL as that is the closest room for a single night that is available.

BIRTHDAY QUILT

I made this quilt as a birthday quilt for my niece in Minnesota. Her favorite colors are teal and light yellow. The finished size is 44 x 50 inches. The border and backing are the same. Machine quilted by RLM. March 2018.
She loves it !!

THANKFUL HARVEST

I took this Thanksgiving panel and added 2 borders. I machine quilted around the cornucopia and on the borders. It is 20 x 26 inches. The backing is a brown and blue homespun. Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday, and I have several fall- themed quilted items.

SCRAP 16 PATCH QUILT (for local burn out victim)

This quilt was given in Jan. 2018 to a burn out victim in the area. The quilt is 70" x 70" square. I cut, pieced, and bound it.  The teen girls at church tied it with yarn.  All the materials were donated.

To make the top, which can be adjusted to fit any bed size you need:
  • Each 16 Patch block is made of 16 4" squares
  • The green sashing between the blocks is 2.5" wide
  • The posts (squares at intersections of sashing) is a 2.5" block
  • The white inside border is 2.5" wide
  • The outside blue border is 6" wide
